Blogging as a content type dates back to the late 1990s, and has become a dominant way of self-publishing in the 2000s. Wordpress is one many blogging platforms, it that has been around for the past ten years and has evolved to a CMS (Content Management System) structure. Which means it’s also a great way to produce websites for all sorts of outlines, such as ecommerce, personal portfolio’s, eLearning, and much more. In short we can use Wordpress to a miscellaneous variety of content. Our workshop focus will be in using Wordpress as a personal portfolio tool. As an outcome the student will hold the knowledge to publish different content types such as articles, images, videos, and links. There will be an approach to social media integration with Wordpress, since publishing content is only half of the work done, in a globalization context the user has to share it and distribute it to the world. We will handle this trough Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. Because it’s important to know if contents are reaching out to the targeted audience, we have included content analytics in our workshop. Meaning we can track our audience and most importantly adjust our content accordingly. This is important in so many ways, namely in finding a job, and knowing if the published content is reaching out a potential employer. There are two ways for a Wordpress experience, the self-hosted installation from wordpress.org or the automatic hosted one in wordpress.com, students will learn about the major differences between them through an info graphics, which will be a great preview to the info graphics workshop. Students will use the automatic hosted wordpress.com, this saves students from the installation and configuration steps, which are time consuming.
Wordpress is a community driven experience for creating and publishing content, it is a fantastic way to build digital skills and experience.
