Reference Managing with Mendeley
Summary
Those who have worked in any large project such as thesis or academic work, with hundreds of references, know how important it is to keep the references well documented and be sure that you don't lose anything. Mendeley is a platform that allows managing your research in a very convenient way. We just have to import the files to Mendeley that it will automatically extracts the data file necessary to keep constantly updated bibliography. We can also import references in formats like EndNote XML, RIS, or BibTex.
Mendeley also has the ability to import files by drag and drop. The application will extract the PDF details, reference citations, keywords, among other actions that allow automated import.
Your library of references will be organized orderly so you can easily search inside applying various filters: search by author, source documents by keyword and tags that you will put when the import is made.
In addition to the organizational structure, Mendeley allows to share the material and contacts with other researchers, making it an excellent tool for academics and scholars.
Mendeley is multiplatform and is available for Windows, Mac and Linux for free.
Audience & Format
The workshop is targeted for both students and tutors that do, or intend to do, research.
The workshop is scheduled for 3 hours and the access to a personal computer and Internet are mandatory. Organizer will give a brief introduction (approximately 30 minutes) about the Mendeley platform, what it is, what it does and what are the main differences and advantages of this platform to other reference manager platforms like Endnote.
Afterwards, the attendees will be invited to explore the tool - hands-on approach. It will be showed how to create an account in the Mendelay platform and how to install the platform and the plugins needed. After that, it will be created a public group where every attendee will create several references form various sources of information. Those references will be cited in a document and the bibliography automatically generated.
